HydroShutter-HS 
is a motorized actuator designed to eliminate long-duration bio-fouling on backscattering sensors and other optical sensors such as underwater cameras.

HydroShutter-HS is a motorized shutter designed to be attached to a HydroScat-2 backscattering sensor to prevent bio-fouling during long deployments.  For this purpose a copper blade is attached to the motor shaft, and the HydroScat-2 powers the motor at appropriate times to uncover or cover its windows as it collects data or sleeps. 

HydroShutter-HS could also be used as a submersible actuator for other applications.  When voltage is applied, the shaft rotates in a direction determined by the voltage polarity, until it reaches the motion limit set at assembly time.  An electronic circuit detects the limits of motion and cuts off power to the motor when a limit is reached.
