The moorings in Monterey Bay are deployed year round by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) as part of their Ocean Acquisition System for Interdisciplinary Science (OASIS). These moorings send data via radio to MBARI located at Moss Landing, CA at the center of Monterey Bay. MBARI maintains seven day quality control plots on their OASIS website

HOBI Labs processes optical data from the HOBI Labs instruments on the moorings in Monterey Bay. Use the menu above to view data for the previous day, the last seven days, or the entire time series of the HOBI Labs instruments on the moorings.

M1 is located at the center of the mouth of Monterey Bay. Attached to the M1 mooring is a HydroRad-4 (HR4), HydroRad-2 (HR2), HydroScat-2 (HS2), an a-Beta and a c-Beta. The HydroRad-4 is measuring hyperspectral downwelling irradiance and upwelling radiance above the surface and upwelling radiance just below the surface. The HydroRad-2 is at 10 m depth with one downwelling irradiance collector and one upwelling radiance collector. The HydroScat-2 measures backscattering at 470 and 676 nm and fluorescence at 676 nm just below the surface. The a-Beta is measuring absorption and backscattering at 442 nm. The c-Beta measures beam attenuation and backscattering at 442 nm.

M2 is located outside of Monterey Bay in the California Current. The HydroScat-2 (HS2) is the only HOBI Labs instruments currently attached to M2. This HydroScat-2 is also measuring backscattering at 470 and 676 nm and fluorescence at 676 nm.
